Stepping out of your comfort zone is one of the remarkable things that traveling the world makes you do. As you leave your snuggly home for a while to see what beauty the Earth has in store for you, it’s time to explore and experience unfamiliar things! It is a wonderful chance to learn and discover the planet you live in and the life within it which includes you.
When something is new, oftentimes, there’s a huge tendency that you hesitate to try it. This completes a big true part of traveling. Because you are visiting a foreign country, there are many things unknown and alien to you. That’s why it’s not surprising to feel scared or doubtful before agreeing to do everything! A lot of people get the same feeling, so it’s not just you if you can relate to that!
“Foreign” makes you reluctant, but if you overcome the worry, your eyes will be opened to the awesomeness of new things that travels offer. Below are 6 NEW things you should not be afraid to experience when you’re traveling! Also check out the reasons why you really should not be!
1 – NEW FOOD
No trip is complete without food. When you travel, not only your eyes and heart must be filled with delight but also your mouth and tummy!
New food to taste and to be full with is a special feature in traveling! When you visit a foreign country, it will be a wholesome pursuit to get to know significant facets of their history and culture. Food is one of the pathways that will introduce you to those gems!
Local food is very exceptional because most of them are found and cooked only in the countries that gave birth to them. And even when some of them are adapted by and served in other countries, still, it’s beautifully different to savor it from the origin and most authentic of all!
Do not be afraid to try new food because it just makes your travel experience a hundred times more memorable. Well, it’s understandable if you are afraid to try exotic food because most people also don’t have a strong stomach for those unique chows. Moreover, another excuse is allergies towards food. Of course, if you have these, you really have to be careful about eating new food. Nonetheless, without these restrictions, enjoy new food and gain new food recommendations to give away to your loved ones who will travel to the same place soon!
2 – NEW LOCAL CLOTHES
There are countries that are very strict when it comes to garments that people wear when visiting specific spots. Temples, churches and shrines considered sacred to locals require clothing that respects the sanctity of the locations and of the people’s belief and tradition. Some just require you, tourists, to wear clothes that cover the whole body, while some actually have particular apparel available for rent or purchase.
When you get to visit countries with these regulations in visiting tourist destinations, and if you don’t want to skip those itineraries, be sure that you are willing to try on those local clothes which are new to you. Some people find it uneasy to do so because of the differences in style, textures and other aspects, so it is important to clearly make up your mind first!
3 – NEW TRANSPORTATION MEANS
Because you have lived your whole life in your homeland, you are most likely used to riding all the local vehicles to bring you here and there. Many countries share similar transportation means; buses and taxis are very common. However, there are countries owning transports that exist only in their land.
The Philippines has jeepneys (often called jeeps) which are 4-wheeled vehicles that vary in size, seat capacity and decorations, but when you see a jeep, you’ll know that it is a jeep for it is the country’s symbolic icon. Cuba has the cocotaxi which are small coconut-like scooters. Locals ride the blue cocotaxi while tourists hop onto the yellow versions! Japan has Maglev which makes for a thrilling ride because it rises above the railroad tracks. These are just a few of those distinct country-exclusive transports present in the globe.
Do not be scared to experience new transportation means. They are safer than you imagine because they are actually being used by locals 24/7, meaning you don’t have to really worry about your safety while riding it. What’s more, these vehicles will help you to reach your destinations comfortably, letting you enjoy your trip schedules and the pleasing sights along the way!
4 – NEW ADVENTURES
You will be staying in a nice and cozy hotel accommodation when you travel abroad, but the ‘vacation’ does not simply skyrocket there! New adventures are totally not to miss!
Look up on the Internet the things tourists must do when they visit the country you are about to fly to. There will be countless of them, however, more often than not, what you see online is not yet everything! When you land in that country, you will discover more terrific adventures to take on, and it’s going to be a waste to ignore the chance.
Nature trips, museum hopping, island escapades, designer brand galore, mountain climbing, outdoor campings, amusement parks are there. Exhilarating rides like zipline and cable cars and extreme activities such as skydiving, paragliding and bungee jumping will give you goosebumps too! Of course, the list goes on!
Although a lot of them are petrifying, try new adventures that you can bear! Some of these will make you think twice over and over again, yet if you decide to make your trip the best one yet, then never let the chance to experience new adventures slip away!
5 – NEW LANGUAGES
It’s not really frightening; it’s safer to say that it’s worrying when you encounter or when you have to approach foreign people in that foreign country you’re visiting. Language barriers are truly obstructing a lot of things.
But even if that’s the case, don’t panic. Instead, find ways to communicate understandably with those people. Hand gestures help a lot, but of course, be careful with these to avoid being disrespectful. Ask assistance from multilingual companions or tour guides too. If you know how to speak at least basic terms in that foreign language, that would help. And understanding and knowing how to speak in English will save you as well when you meet people who also speak or know how to speak the universal language.
6 – NEW FACES
Some people are reluctant to socialize, and that makes them uncomfortable when traveling. There could be a couple of reasons why, but remember that when you visit other countries, you will inevitably have to interact and get in contact with other people, especially foreigners.
Of course, you will be going to tourist destinations, asking guidance to local authorities, meeting fellow tourists and seeking suggestions from local residents too. To be able to do these and more, you have to reach out and to be welcoming as well. New faces are unfamiliar to you, yet they will be the one to help you make your international trip better!

New is not always scary! Some are the cherries on top you need for your trips to be the most amazing ones for you to keep!
